"Hi, this is Laura Turner, and today we're going to talk about how to write a personal profile. I'm going to assume for this video that you're writing a personal profile to be posted online for others to view akin to MySpace and Facebook and a profile on your website even. So the first thing you need to remember when writing your personal profile online is that you should be honest, but not too honest. You never know who's going to be looking at your profile and you really don't want to lend too much information to the strangers so that they could even conduct elaborate schemes to actually make you believe that you know them when you really don't. Next, never give away information like your address and your phone number, or even your email, especially if you don't want to receive lots of spam from people who are going to be taking your email and selling it and just sending you random things like viruses. Finally try, especially if it's MySpace or FaceBook, try to represent yourself as you would like others to see you, and how you'd like to see yourself. This is not to say that you should be completely dishonest and sort of present yourself as one person but actually be something else in life. This is to say that you should put your best foot forward because as we all know people are starting to look at your profiles online who are trying to hire you and they're going to be looking at your pictures on MySpace and if you're upside down drinking out of the keg on your MySpace people are not going to want to hire you. So think about how you're representing yourself, what photos do you want to make private for your friends to see and what else are you going to show all those strangers out in cyberspace. So good luck with making your personal profile work for you!"
