"My name is Christine Marquette and I'm a Registered Dietician with the Austin Regional Clinic and I'm going to talk to you about how vinegar helps you lose weight. There isn't actually any scientific evidence that vinegar truly helps you lose weight, it is mainly anecdotal. And one of the big factors is the use of apple cider vinegar thats' usually the type of vinegar that most people associate with weight loss. There have been some preliminary studies, it's been very modest weight loss, once study showed an average weight loss of two pounds over a four-week period. That's only a half a pound a week. So again, no significant amount of weight loss in this particular study. And the exact mechanism wasn't really identified. One of the things that was hypothesize was that it improve this particular group of people insulin response; so their insulin was used more effectively, they actually did and completely digest all the carbohydrate that they ate, so they actually absorb fewer calories. Again, that's just a theory of why these people may have potentially lost two pounds over a four-week period. So again, that's not a significant amount of weight loss and it really isn't well known whether it was truly the vinegar that cause to that weight loss. So again not a lot of scientific evidence that vinegar truly can cause weight loss. It's not something that necessarily bad for you, you definitely can include it in salad dressings and pickling and that type of thing, but it's better just to use it because you actually like the flavor that it imparts on your food rather than relying on it as a weight loss aid."
