"Hi. I'm Laura from youngwritersworkshops.com and I'm going to talk about how to teach your students about different styles of writing. I define style of writing as an author's approach. Everything about their writing that makes it their own, how they phrase words, what they, how they approach description of character. It's related to writer's craft and I think the most important way to expose and help students learn about style is to bring literature into the classroom. The more that you connect literature and writing in your classroom, the more learning examples and opportunities your students have. Read out loud some authors who have a really distinctive style. Roald Dahl, for example, he's an author who writes really funny flowing, almost a little dark, descriptions and characteristics. This is, this can be as style that you point out and students can read and start to understand. The next step is for you to assign the students to imitate an author that they've observed the style of in their notebook or wherever they're gathering some insight. This is a great way for them to really pick up on an author's style. Continue this study and ask students to collect from their own reading at home or wherever they are when they observe an author's style that really stands out. Ask them to observe it and bring it back and share it with the group. These are some ways that you can start to introduce your students to different styles of writing."
