"Hi, I'm Gretchen Rivas with Relax To The Max Massage Therapy, and today we're going to talk about, how to remove muscle knots. Often times people have a lot of knots in the shoulder area, they can have them in other parts of the body too, but the most common culprits are up in the shoulder area around the shoulder blades. What you want to do is, you always want to warm up the tissue first before you start working on anything specific, and massage that and warm it up, make that tissue feel better. Then what you want to do is kind of feel around in there, and often times you'll be able to feel the difference in the muscle tissue when you find a little bit of a knot. And when you find that knot, just kind of press in on it, and you want to hold on it for no more than 20 seconds, and you want to get feed back from your client on how the pain is, so if there is pain involved with it, have them give you a number on a 1 to 10 scale, 1 being, you can't feel it, and 10, take you to the hospital, you don't want to get them to that point of course, so, get some feed back from them. And as you hold that knot, that should start to release a little bit, and so after 10 seconds, ask them, say, give me a number again on that, and hopefully that number has dropped from a 7 or 8, to a 4 or 5, and after another 10 seconds of holding on to it, then it will drop to a 2 or a 3. And then after you're done with that, and it's released somewhat, rub on it a little bit more, smooth it out, and then you can move onto the next one. And that's how you relieve a muscle knot."
