Video Transcript

"Artificial respiration works when you're involved with someone who needs to be revived. But how do you keep a relationship alive? This is Dr. Paul, author of "Boomer Girls," A Boomer Woman's Guide to Men and Dating. If your relationship needs artificial respiration, it's over. How do you keep that relationship alive? And that's the key. How do you keep it dynamic? How do you keep it continuing to be interesting? First of all, you need to be interested in each other. Genuinely, actually interested in each other, in the things you do, the things you do together. Don't let it bog down into boring by doing the same thing over and over. You know the definition of mental illness: doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. So, don't let it bog down. If you want to keep that relationship alive, don't simply lock into going to the same restaurants, the same movies, the same activities, the same friends, the family. Go by yourselves elsewhere. We all know what to do. We go to a hotel for the weekend, we go on a trip over the weekend, we may go on a cruise. Anything that happens to make us more interesting to the other and have our relationship more interesting. And by the way, it helps to be more interesting to yourself too. That's what it's all about. This is Dr. Paul. May your fantasies of today be your realities of tomorrow."
