"Hi. This is Yolanda Vanveen from Vanbeenbulbs.com. Next we're going to talk about how to design a rock garden. Rock gardens are some of the most beautiful gardens that you can find in the world. There's so many different varieties. There's so many different kinds of rock gardens. My favorites are the Japanese Rock Gardens. They have the beautiful sand and a design with just a few rocks. They are very simple with a little bit of moss. Then in America we use rock gardens mostly when we have hillsides, especially when we live on a hillside. Where there's just lots of rocks and there is not a lot of place to grow. So, by adding rocks you can make different spots for your plants to grow and create a beautiful garden. Here in my yard I have like a simple rock garden. It's just all rocks and then in the corner I have this beautiful rock water feature. It's basically a piece of cement with a hole in the middle and a pump underneath; we've just dug a hole. It's so simple, but it's so beautiful and the water is so calming. Rock gardens are so simple in that you can grow anything in them. In the space of the rocks you can move some rocks aside and put plants in there. There's many different plants that do well in rock gardens, but I've found my succulents and grasses and things like lavender and also very, very drought resistant plants do the best in rock gardens. A lot of times they are in sunny spots, so you've got to consider whether you have sun or shade, if you have a large or small area. You can always add more large rocks, but the trick with the rock garden is to make it look good. Don't just have a pile of rocks and that alone makes your rock garden."
