"Hi this is Zephyr Clarke- Dolberg with Miami Dog Training in Miami, Florida. In this clip we are going to talk about how to care for small dog breeds and Brittany is a perfect example. She is a Chihuahua Lasa Apso mix and Chihuahuas are typically known for being kind of nervous dogs but in Brittany's case she is not a very nervous dog at all and one of the biggest mistakes that people tend to make with small dogs is that they don't let them walk enough. They tend to carry them everywhere so the dog, a lot of people don't know this but when you are carrying the dog and the dog is on top of you if it is a dominant dog to begin with the dog is going to assume that it is on top of you because it is your leader and allowing them to walk gets rid of some of that nervous energy and exercise allows them to kind of go with the natural flow of things. You never want to nurture the nervous or shy or teeth bearing behaviors with a small dog. You want to give them a little pinch on the scruff of their neck and praise when they are really good.
