"Hi, I'm Laura from youngwritersworkshop.com and I'm going to talk about how to write a book proposal. When writing a book proposal you're basically trying to sell your idea to a publisher. One of the most important things is to convince them that there's a really big need on this topic. The way you would prepare to do this is research, a lot of research of what's out there, what's similar, who's already published something on this and how it's selling, try and really make the case on why there's a really strong need for your book. Next, you'd also include a marketing plan, how you envision getting the word out about this book. Would it be a book tour, would it be on-line marketing, would it be some other even that's going to launch your book? Include any of your thoughts about how this book would be marketed. Most publishers request a sample chapter. Some might actually want you to send an entire manuscript, but in a book proposal the standard thing is a sample chapter. This gives the publisher a chance to look at your writing, see what your style is like and what your command of the material for that one chapter is like. So, a sample chapter is a vital piece of a book proposal. You'd also include your resume, a little bit of a biography so that the publisher has a little bit more knowledge about why you would be the right person to right this book. So, to sum it up, how to write a book proposal, research your topic so that you can strongly present the need, do a competitive analysis of what's already out there on the shelves and what's, how it's selling, include a sample chapter and a marketing plan and a biography of yourself, and that's how you write a book proposal."
