How to Hit a Punch Shot in Golf

"Hello welcome my name is Julio Nutt I'm a master instructor of the Jim McLean Golf School in Miami Florida. In this clip we're going to talk about how to hit a punch shot. Punch shot is a very low shot, that you mostly use to hit under the wing, or to escape from problem. What I usually do is I'm going to grip the club definitely lower in the grip, and we're going to take it all the way up. I'm going to put the ball in my stance a little back, I definitely don't want to put the ball forward in my stance, I want to put it back in my stance. And most of all I'm going to play with my weight. There's two weights, your static weight at set up, but then your dynamic weight as you move into the ball. The best way to do the punch shot would be to definitely favor your weight into your left side. So when I'm standing over the ball I have some sixty, sixty-five percent of my weight into my left side, I'm not going to shift weight back. I'm going to keep my weight over to my left side, but as I move forward I'm going to move even more weight into my left side. This is going to encourage and help me keep my hands ahead of the club, it's going to help me hit down de-lofting the club, and it's going to help me keep the ball down. I'm going to demonstrate a shot here taking the ball, the ball is back in my stance, my weight is into my forward leg and I'm just going to stay here, go down and hit a really nice punch shot.
