"Hi, my name is Dave Andrews. Today I'm going to show you how to define a default value for a Microsoft Access field. To begin, let's open up Microsoft access and let's select a data base, open. If you get a security warning just click on the open button. Now we're going to select one of our tables in this data base. And this is the data that's actually in that data base. What I want to do is define a default value for the My Data row. So let's close out of our data view, we don't want to save the changes. Right click on the table and go to Design View. Now here are the fields that are in that table. We want to select the My Data field. And we're going to give it a default value down here on the general tab, under the default value field. Type in what you want to be your default value and let's select save. Now close out of the Design View on the table. Show that the default value is tagging, let's open up that table and create some new rows. Just press tab or enter and you will see that as I type, I have a primary key so I have to increase my number here on my ID. You will see that as I type and create new fields that default value is being filled in for the My Data row. It's that easy to define a default value for your fields. My name is Dave Andrews and I've just showed you how to define a default value for a field in Microsoft Access."
