"Hi, this is Tom Kenaston, singer/songwriter pianist, in West Palm Beach, Florida, and also New York City. This clip is going to be about how to increase your vocal range. It's tricky. The first thing I would tell you is make sure, if you're serious, that you get a little help from a voice teacher, choir director that you work with, you don't want to hurt yourself. You don't want to jump in and say, "here's my top note. When we going to sing this one?" That would be bad. So, at the same time though, you want to free up your voice. A lot of us maybe have a preconceived idea that, oh, I'm a bass, so I only sing here, and then the choir director says, no, I need you to sing in the center section, you're like, no, I'm a bass. Try it. Try singing in the tenor section and see what happens. Regardless, one of the most important things that you need to do is make sure you sing every day. Sing regularly, it's again, it's like working out. It's like exercising a muscle, your vocal chords actually are muscles. And if you really want to increase your range, you really have to sing every day, and sing a number of different exercises. They can be very, very simple, starting with something as easy as this. Ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah. Then take that up a little bit. Ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah. Ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah. Keep going up until it starts to get uncomfortable, then stop, work yourself back down. Do that for a week. Come back the second week, see if you can go up a little higher then next time. Do that for a week. Never hurt yourself. If you start to feel something hurting, stop and back off. And before you know it, with time and proper technique, and taking care of yourself, you'll find your vocal range increasing in small doses, which is the best thing that can happen. This is Tom Kenaston, this has been how to increase your vocal range."
