How to Batch Resize JPEGs

"Hello my name is Luis Estrada and I'm a software developer. In this video I'll show you how to batch resize JPEG's. I am using Adobe Photoshop CS2. Photoshop is a registered trademark to Adobe, a company to which I have no affiliation. For this example let's say that we have taken some photographs of a party last weekend and we want to send them by mail to our friends.The small problem is that each image is about two and a half megabytes in size so if I want to send for example 20 or 30 pictures you are looking at a final size of 50 or 100 megabytes. A better option is to resize the images at a smaller size, however opening resizing and saving each of the 30 images could take a lot of time. Instead we can use the batch tool in photoshop. First let's enable the actions palate by pressing Window and actions. This palate allows us to record actions that use them over and over again so let's open one of the images. We are ready to start recording. Press on the create new action button, give it a name, for example JPEG resize. Leave the other options at the default state and press record. Now you see that the recording button is red. From now on anything we do in photo shop will be recorded. So go to image, image size and enter a new width of for example 800 and a new height of 600. Press o'kay. Select file. Say for red and choose the JPEG height preset from the menu. Lets use a quality of 60%, click save, choose a new folder. In this case I have a folder called smaller, press save and close the image in photo shop. Press no to maintain the original images intact and now we can stop the recording. We will use the recorded actions for each of the pictures in the party folder. Go to file, automate and choose batch. Select the JPEG resize action we just created. For the source we will use a folder, press choose and browse to the party folder. Add choose a destination folder in this case the smaller folder, add click o'kay. Since we had already created the first image we get a warning asking if we want to replace it. Press on replace. That is it. Now you can sit back and relax while photo shop does all the work for us. Depending on how many pictures you have in the folder, this could take a while. Once the process is finished go to the smaller folder and your images are now optimized for e-mail. You see that we reduced the total file size to less than one megabyte."
