"Military officers are made gentleman, by acts of Congress. How to be a gentleman? This is Dr. Paul, author of Boomer Girls, A Boomer Woman's Guide to Men and Dating, and host of Ask Dr. Paul. You may not become a gentleman by an act of Congress, just because you're a military officer, but there are some things you can do to become a gentleman, and it kind of runs the gamut of image. It runs the gamut of hygiene. It runs the gamut of looking good overall. First, we talk about the image. Image is all important, because its' the way people evaluate you, within the first three seconds, of the time they see you. Make certain that your nails are manicured, that you are clean shaven. Get over this business about, well, I'll wear a five o'clock stubble to the club and everybody's going to think I'm cool. No, they will think that you are unshaven. Ever gone to a club gentleman, and seen, and I'm using the term, assuming that you're all gentleman, looking at all the guys, and they all look alike. Let me tell you the scenario. They all have their shirts out. They have three days of stubble, and they think they're cool, and they're all standing around talking. I will guarantee you, that the man who looks like a gentleman, has perhaps, his shirt tucked in, has a sharp looking shirt, has clean shoes, has a belt, well kept hair, shaved. Guess who is looking different? The one that looks like a gentleman, and what else do you do? You walk up and you don't say something cool like, Oh, baby you're hot. That is not a gentleman. You walk up and say, Hi, my name is Bill, what's your name? direct, simple, and clean. That's what it's all about. Maybe this helps you answer that question, how to be a gentleman? This is Dr. Paul. May your fantasies of today, be your realities of tomorrow."
