Computers are complex machines built upon very simple principles. They perform arithmetical operations millions of times over to transform digital information moving at lightning speed into usable human data. A personal computer's job is to help a user create, manipulate, deliver, receive or delete media content. This is a simple, sterile definition that sounds uninteresting on the surface. Nevertheless, these fundamental functions mimic human ability in some surprising ways. Therefore, the computer is increasingly becoming an engine of the imagination, a platform for the digital life. In this free video series, a software developer provides tips for using Microsoft Excel, SQL, and various functions of the Internet as well. Learn how to create a Web site, how to follow the NFL online and how to use smiley faces in an e-mail. "Hi my name is Dave Andrews and today I'm going to show you how to create the first website. We are going to create our first website using Microsoft Word. This is very easy to use and you are probably already familiar with it. Click on the start button, go to all programs, find Microsoft Office and let's just open up word. Now that word is open we are going to create just some website stuff and get some information about ourselves and whatnot. I'm going to create a heading by increasing my font size, saying welcome to my website. Now let's decrease that size and say thank you for coming to my website, I hope you enjoy it. To put a picture into our website, let's go to insert at the top and say picture and we're just going to find a picture that we like and we'll insert it into he web page. Let's kind of resize it by dragging it down a little bit and let's put a link to our favorite website. To do that let's type a little bit of text and let's say that the website that we like is Google. Let's highlight that text, go to the insert tab at the top, say links and just select hyperlink. Right here it is going to ask us for the address we would like to go to and I'm just going to put Google's address and say o'kay. Now let's save our first little web page here by going up to the very top office button and selecting save as. Under save as type let's find web page which would be a .html file and we are going to drop that into our desktop and I'm going to call my web page my first site. Now that that is saved I am going to minimize word and open up my first site. My name is Dave Andrews and I have just showed you how to create your first website."
