"The end of a beautiful friendship. How sad. Or is it? Falling in love with friends. This is Dr. Paul, author of Boomer Girls: A Boomer Woman's Guide to Men and Dating and host of Ask Dr. Paul. Now look, we've all had that experience; we fall in love with our friends. It may start out as friendship and suddenly, for some reason, the chemistry evolves, and there you are. You're going to fall in love with your friend. You actually probably already had, but didn't recognize it. Maybe subconsciously, you had already fallen in love with that friend. Very simply, and please, please, please do this- tell the other person explicitly. Don't hold back. Give full disclosure. If you fail to give full disclosure up front, you will fail. You must tell this friend exactly how you feel. If you are going to be shy or if you're afraid to do it, wait until you're ready, because you must lay all your cards on the table. I've had so many women call my show with that very same question, and I let them know that this is the way to do it. And why do I let them know that? Because so often they tell me, if only I had let him know everything, it would have been fine. Unfortunately I held back and then kind of dribbled it out. It doesn't work that way. You're working with a man. You've got to give him all the data up front. Then they can process that. This is Dr. Paul. May your fantasies of today be your realties of tomorrow."
