"Welcome everybody, my name is Lars Erik Robinson, I'm with LarsEr Arts All Around Art-tainment, I'm a freelance illustrator, and today I thought we'd talk about how to prepare a canvas for painting. The first thing you do when you buy a canvas, if this was a brand new canvas for example, it already comes painted, but it's always a great idea to take a little bit of Gesso they call it, they call it Gesso, it's used on the canvas to be able to prepare a surface for it. You can even go really strong with it and sand it off and I'm just going on here now and painting over, so if you have a painting you weren't happy with and you want to fix it up, Gesso is a great way of doing it, to fixing it. So that's a first step. And even if before if you bought a canvas that wasn't ready they have - this is one that doesn't have the wood frames. This is just a board. But you can stretch it your own, you can get stretchers for it to stretch it out and staple on the side, and then use the Gesso on the canvas. But today just for demonstration purposes we're going to show you how to prepare with the Gesso. So like you see right here, I am preparing with the Gesso. When we're done with that we'll let it dry and it normally takes it this stuff dries pretty quick. You sand it down if you want a smooth surface and if you just want to have that look on there where it's pasted on, you leave that and let it dry and it adds to whatever painting you're doing. So I hope that explains to you a little bit more how to prepare your canvas for that. That's basically all you need to do is just either stretch it on there, staple it, oh and then paint it with some paint, they also sell brown, they sell all different kind of colors of the Gesso paint to have a base. Thank you so much for joining me, and my name is Lars Erik Robinson."
