"This is the Austin Zoo in Austin, Texas. And it's not your everyday wild life park. Instead of purchasing rare or exotic species, the zoo is a sanctuary for injured and unwanted animals. Started in 1990 as a private ranch with goats and pigs, it is now grown to Austin's largest animal rescue center for exotic animals. The Austin Zoo is a nonprofit organization and is funded by admission fees, as well as private donations. They count on the generosity of the public to house and care for the rescued animals. The facility is located west of Austin on the way to the Hill Country. It covers over twenty acres and has room for some three hundred animals. It's not a fancy big city zoo but the close quarters allow you to get a close up and personal view. Younger kids will enjoy the petting zoo, and these peacocks roam around like they own the place! This is a great place for a picnic, so bring your lunch and stay awhile."
