"So you want to do a fast but you think the best way to start might be with a simple juice fast. My name is Mark Brinson, Doctor of Oriental Medicine, Physical Medicine and Human Performance Specialist. Juice fasts are one of the kind of training wheels fast that I have people go on if they want to try to do some sort of a cleansing or detoxification fast. The important thing about this is to choose just one juice. The favorite ones that I recommend are a natural grape juice, a natural apple juice, or possibly a natural citrus, grapefruit being better than something like an orange because it has a little bit much sugar in it. Now when you're going to do this fast you choose a period of time somewhere between 12, 24, and 36 hours. The best being in the 24 to 48 hour range, where during that time you're going to increase your water intake and as far as the juice goes you're only going to drink one type of juice when you're hungry. So you can't mix and match, what you want to do is either take the grape juice, the apple juice or natural apple cider, or the grapefruit juice and only drink that so that you're getting the maximum benefit from the properties that it has. So, again for that juice fast, you want to choose a period of time preferably right around 48 hours, plus or minus, where you're only having that one particular juice when you're hungry and increasing your water intake. Grape juice, very good for the intestines and also cleansing the blood. Apple juice is better for the liver and the intestines as well. My name is Mark Brinson, Doctor of Oriental Medicine, Physical Medicine and Human Performance Specialist, wishing you a happy, healthy and balanced day."
