"Hello, my name is Rebecca Harrick I'm a massage therapist at Everything Peaceful Wellness Center here in Wilmington North Carolina and I'm here to give you a few tips on Prenatal massage. Before you go and get a prenatal massage or give a prenatal massage, it's important to make sure you are receiving from somebody who is certified. There's a lot of training beyond what you learn in massage school that needs to be addressed before you are able to give a proper prenatal massage. One of those things for example is that you should not use deep tissue on the legs due to risk of blood clots, you want to avoid pressure to the Achilles tendon area, you don't want to receive prenatal massage in your first or third trimesters and especially not at abdominal massage or deep abdominal massage during those times. If you do go to receive a massage a prenatal massage there are a couple different options you may run into to. First of all someone practicing may have a massage table geared specifically towards prenatal massage in which there is a cut out for the belly. Here, removable pad and then theres a sling with an adjustable support in also available for that. Reviews of that are mixed. Some people say that it's not a good idea because you put strain onto the ligaments and the hips and the lower back but other people say it's fine as long as you're supported. So, it would be up to you and, you know, to create your own comfort level there and make sure that you are in the hands of someone who is specifically trained for that, and that would be a few tips on prenatal massage."
