"Hi, I'm Linda Wooldridge, I'm a home school mom, and over the years I've bought a lot of curriculum. Some of it have been great choices, but a lot of it, oh man did I make a mistake. So how do you know which one is the right one for your child? Well there's actually two parts to that question. You want to pick one that is a good match for your child's learning style, but you also want to pick one that is a good match for your teaching style. And in all honesty, if you have to make a choice between the two, choose your teaching style over their learning style because if you do that you will understand the curriculum and you can teach it to your child in a way that they will understand. Pay attention to the fact whether the curriculum is visual or auditory or kinaesthetic. Visual speaks for itself. Is it something that you look at? Is it something that you read? If you have a child who learns best by seeing, than reading a book will work better for them than listening to a lecture. But if you have an auditory child, they would rather listen to you read the book out loud than read it for themselves. And if you have a kinaesthetic child, well then give them some blocks to build with while you read the book to them. It'll stick in their brains a lot better that way. Truth be told, you can teach almost any curriculum any way, but you do need to know which is the best way to reach your child. And the best way to learn that is by trial and error. So good luck with those curriculum choices and remember, if they don't work for your family, you can always sell them and try again. I'm Linda Wooldridge, have a great home school day."
