"Hi, I'm Linda Wooldridge, I'm a home school mom. You know I've been home schooling for the last ten years, and there comes a point where my students have exceeded my knowledge base. Usually with a little extra study, I'll learn what I need to teach them. But some subjects, well, it's just too hard to get that information back. Take Spanish for example. It's been thirty some years since I took my Spanish classes and I really don't remember all that much about it. And certainly not enough to teach another student. So my decision was to enroll our kids in Florida Virtual School. It's an online public school. If you live in another state, you might have an option like this in your state. If you go to their website which is www.flvs.com, then you will be able to register your student with their school. If you are registered as a home school student in the State of Florida, you will need to have your school district send a letter to the virtual school certifying that you are in fact registered with the state. They do that so that they know that they'll get the state money for the time that your student is spending in their school. Once you've done that and you've selected your classes, you wait until there's a classroom opening. They open new classrooms every month. So it generally isn't too long before your student is enrolled in the class that you're looking for. All of the course work is done online and there are no text books. Generally speaking, they tell you to have your student allot about an hour and a half per day per subject. That's a lot of time online, so you want to be careful how many subjects you sign your student up for. And in any case in the State of Florida, if you want to remain a home school student you can't sign up for more than three. So go online, get the information that they need from your school district, get registered for the classes, and be prepared to help your student as they go through the journey of learning online. It's a great, free opportunity. I'm Linda Wooldridge, have a great home schooling day."
