"Hi, I'm Linda Woolridge. I'm a home school mom. We've been home schooling for the last ten years. So, how do I home school my child effectively? How do I know if it's going well? Actually, you know home school, it's really easy to see if your child is getting the concept. Afterall, they're not in a class of twenty five or thirty. And if they don't understand it, well you'll be able to see it in their faces. And they have to answer every single question. There isn't the rest of the class to answer. It doesn't matter if they raise their hand or not, they're the only student you have to call on so they know they're going to have to answer the question. So, watch your child. See if they understand why they're doing it. If it's a math problem, try and mix up the problems a little bit. Give them an opportunity to try their hand at multiplication and division. Maybe you want to give them addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Let them try their hand at something they did three lessons ago and see if they still remember how to do it. Remember in most states, at the end of the year you are going to have an evaluation of what your child has learned. So you want to make sure that they do remember the concepts that you taught earlier in the year. And there's nobody standing behind you telling you you have to finish the book or move on to the next lesson. If your child simply doesn't get it, that's o.k. Go back over it a second time. Take as much time as you need. If your child still doesn't get it, try and think of a creative way to show them the same concept. Instead of doing percentage problems on a page, take them to the Mall. Give them a chance to try their hand at computing sale prices on things. Take them out in the real world and show them how they use the things that you're teaching them today. It'll stick in their minds a lot better and they'll have a lot of fun in the process and you'll all relax. I'm Linda Wooldridge, have a great home schooling day."
