"Hi, I'm Linda Wooldridge. I'm a home school mom. I've been home schooling since 1998. I have one child in college and another in high school which means I had to choose a lot of curriculum over the years. One of the biggest problems I have is what do I teach this year. What are they suppose to be learning? There's a lot of ways to find that information. You can check on your state's website. Frequently, they will have what is called a scope and sequence which will tell you what they teach at the different grade levels within your state. There are also companies that provide scope and sequence that you can buy and you can find them online. Simply look up the grade level that you're teaching. Learning what subjects suppose to be teaching that year. Is it multiplication? Are they learning to read? Are they recognizing shapes? Are you learning about perimeter and circumference? Once you find out what they are suppose to teach go out and get your materials. You can get them from the library. You can get them from your friends and in fact a lot of things you'll find who just happen in everyday life. How big is that circle that they just drew in the driveway? Once you exhausted your free materials, you can also look for books that you can purchase. Here's one that we use for my daughter in high school. After that, just take a look at what other things you want to teach. What is your child's interest? You know you have to cover US History, World History and Geography at some point but it really doesn't matter what year you cover unless you are going to be putting your child back in public school the following year. So, enjoy life. Take a look at a scope and sequence but don't bond with it. You have lots of options. I'm Linda Wooldridge. I hope you have a great home schooling day."
