"So, you've been doing some belly dancing, and you're ready for a costume. Hi, I'm Johanna Krynytzky, with Hip Expressions Belly Dance Studio, in St. Petersburg, Florida. Let's talk about how you make your own belly dance costume. There are a variety of different costumes that you need to choose according to what your audience is going to be. If you're going to be a professional belly dancer you will need to have a professional looking belly dance costume. If you're just a student and you're starting out then there are very simple options you can do. You can make nice simple circle skirts, where you just take a half circle of fabric, two or three half circles of fabric and put them together, and over that you would wear your belly dance belt, right, you're over your skirt. And then on the top you can wear something called a Choli top, which is basically just a short-cropped shirt that shows your belly. So there's a nice simple, basic belly dance costume. However, if you're going to work on being a professional you need a professional costume, which consists of a bra and a skirt with some fancy beadwork. You can do this beadwork yourself. You can construct your bra, you can make your skirt and add all the beadwork, but you want it to look nice and professional with lots of sparkle and glitter. I'm Johanna Krynytzky, with Hip Expressions Belly Dance Studio, helping you make your own belly dance costume."
