"What is the number one belly dance accessory? Hi, I am Johanna Krynytzky, from Hip Expressions Belly Dance Studio in St. Petersburg, Florida. The number one thing that belly dancers wear, is something around their hips. A coin belt or a hip scarf. If you look even in ancient Egyptian picture of dancers, they have a scarf around their hips. Now, what kind of scarf is entirely up to you. For instance, today, I'm wearing one that has both coins, and some bead work on it. So, you can have just coins, because those are nice, cause they make some noise, or you can have one with just beads, which are nice and shiny, but don't make quite as much noise. Now, the way you want to wear the hip belt is down over your hip bones. OK. So, we, we might be used to wearing some things around our waist, like belts. But, for belly dancing, you don't want to hold it around your waist. You want to hold it around your hips. Because that's where it's going to accent your movement. So, if you find your hip bones, you want to tie it right there, and you want to tie it nice and tight. What color and style is entirely up to you, so shop around and get one that you really like."
