"So, just what is a Gypsy? I'm Johanna Krynytzky from St. Petersburg, Florida at Hip Expressions Belly Dance Studio. And to tell you a little bit about the history of Gypsies. Now we use the term very loosely here in America to imply this sort of romantic feel and this sort of freedom. But the Gypsy people have traveled throughout the world and they're a very separate people. They originated in India and then as they traveled West they went through Asia, through the middle East, through Europe and over, across the North coast of Africa, even over into Spain. So you'll find Gypsies in Spain, you'll find Gypsies in Egypt, you'll find Gypsies in Turkey, Romania, I mean as many countries as there are you'll find Gypsy people there. Now they each have their own particular set of customs and traditions that vary from region to region. So, Spanish Gypsies will behave and act very differently and dress very differently and dance and play music very differently than for instance the Egyptian Gypsies. Now Gypsies in Egypt are called the Kowazee. And Gypsies in Turkey for instance are called the Romani people. So I suggest take a look around. Do some research if you want to learn more about the Gypsies of a particular reason, region, and their customs and traditions. I'm Johanna Krynytzky in St. Petersburg, Florida with Hip Expressions Belly Dance Studio, helping you learn a little bit about the Gypsies."
