"You have a great idea for an invention, and you've decided you may need a patent. Hello, I'm Robert Todd, and I'm here to answer the question, how to file for a patent? Well, probably one of the first places to start, is to go to the website for the United States Patent and Trademark Office. They have a very comprehensive website, and you can get on that website, and navigate through it, learning how to do a patent search, learning how to see what is subject to being patented, and what is not, and if you feel comfortable after navigating that website, then you may be able to do it yourself. On the other hand, if you're not comfortable navigating the website, such as you don't understand the terminology, you don't really understand the process, that is being employed, then you may want to consider hiring an expert, in the area of patents, trademarks, and copyrights, and you want to see that they are certified and registered with the United States Patent and Trademark Office, and that should afford you some protection, that they know what they're doing. I'm Robert Todd, and thank you for watching."
