"You've decided to go into business for yourself and by yourself and you've heard about this thing called a sole proprietorship. Hello, I'm Robert Todd and I'm here to answer the question how to form a sole proprietorship. Well believe it or not, its relatively easy because as long as you're not forming or doing business as a Limited Liability Company, an LLC, or you're not doing business as a corporation, you are in essence acting as a sole proprietorship. Now that doesn't mean that you don't need to file and be sure you have the appropriate licenses and permits, but it does mean that you don't have to file any special paperwork to be a sole proprietorship with the state in which you are operating your business. Now perhaps one of the best ways to find out what licenses and permits you need is to contact the local office of the small business administration and they can generally help you when you give them the specific address and the geographical area in which your business is going to be operating. Now if you're going to be operating under a fictitious name even though you're a sole proprietorship, you're still going to have to comply with your particular state's requirements for filing a fictitious name. And that's how you form a sole proprietorship. I'm Robert Todd and thank you for watching."
