"Hi, I'm Athena Reich and I'm an actress, singer/songwriter, and performing arts coach here in New York City. In this clip I'm going to talk about how to book your own first show, locally. So, you're a singer/songwriter and you're ready to bust out and book you're first show. First of all, research which venues perform the kind of, support the kind of music that you do. Are you a sultry, solo singer, songwriter? Then you're going to look at a cafe, or something more intimate, a piano bar. Or are you a huge punk rock band? Then you got to look at where all the rock bands are playing. So, research the venue, then simply make contact. Phone them up, send them an email, walk up to them and talk to them, hang out at the club. Basically, make contact with the manager or the booking agent, whoever it is that, you know, manages the bookings. Say, "I want to talk to whoever books the bands." Just say that and they'll put you in touch with the right person. Talk to them, tell them that you're going to put a lot of promotion behind it, you're going to get all you're friends out, then promote it. Promote it with posters. Put up posters around your local town, email your friends, do My Space promotion, do anything you can to get the word out. Basically, show up early, do a sound check, do your show, and have a blast. This has been Athena Reich on how to book your own first show."
