"Hi this is Aaron Hill coming to you from Fitness For Life in Wilmington, North Carolina. I'm just going to talk to you a little bit about real quick, how an elliptical machine works. Elliptical machine is a a very low, loaded no impact piece of equipment. It's a very common piece of equipment found in most gyms across the country. How it works is very much mimics walking or climbing stairs or going across country skiing, another very similar movement. How they work is they have two foot pedals to accompany each foot, and have rollers on the bottom of each foot pedal and then gliders. Most of these gliders or railings as we call them. Are, can be manipulated to go up or down on an incline level to increase the work load and the resistance. Towards the back, they have this a spindle in the back on which they are attached and that just makes sure that the movement is nice and simple and it glides very smoothly. And so you don't have too much jarring on your hips and knees. For people who have some joint pain, this is what I would recommend for most of my clients who have some knee or ankle or hip problems. The treadmill is a little bit too impactful as well as the bike so if somebody is looking for something that is going to be easy on the knees and joints, this is what I recommend. Again it's a very simple machine, glides very nicely and it's a very kind to the joints and that is how a elliptical machine works from Aaron Hill at Fitness For Life."
