Summary: A four band EQ in Pro Tools allows the user to affect the gain and the amplitude of seven certain frequencies within a sound. Add a seven band EQ to a track and learn how to use it with tips from an experienced music engineer in this free video on recording.
"The next thing I'm going to show you about is the seven band EQ. The seven band EQ basically takes it to the next level. It's not just like these, it has a little bit more of a graphical interface which allows you to kind of draw in what you're trying to take out. The same way that the other ones you had the EQ and everything, this one I can actually visually show you how it works. So if I take maybe this point right here, you can actually see the gain go down on my low, my L and the F. What I could do is change the EQ to a higher one, and you can see how it kind of shrinks it, so it affects less and kind of just accurately brings the amplitude down on one frequency, you know what I'm saying, on a slow, a small range of frequencies. With this, the frequency knob, I can actually change which frequency that it, you know what I'm saying, and bring it to wherever I want within my EQ. Now when using other parts of the EQ you can actually turn up the bass and things like that, and turn up the highs and things like that. But, I try not affect anything too much but the EQ is a very important part of making your sound sound the way you want it to sound. It's like something that can mold the sound and clean up a lot of the unwanted frequencies and a lot of the room sounds that might be annoying, and that you might not want."
