"Hi I'm Amelia and I'm going to show you how to streak your own hair. Figure out where you want to put the streaks, and I always recommend not putting them straight on a part, so that way when your hair grows out, you won't get those lines of demarcation. And all those roots in other words. So figure out where you part your hair, and the best way to do that is to comb your hair straight back and where ever it splits that's where it's natural part is. Then I want you to go just maybe about a half inch underneath that. Pull that apart and that's where you are going to place your streak. There's a lot of different streaking products on the market now, I recommend some sort of cream lightener or even the kits. And I don't recommend a cap. The reason being a cap is very difficult to do on yourself and sometimes you can get those cheetah spots or those dots where the lightener actually swells and then bleeds down into the cap.I often recommend the kind that have like the mascara wand in them or you can even take just a mascara wand that you get at any beauty supply, dip it into the lightener and just put it on. Another way to do this is take your lightener and a comb and you just lightly dip your comb into the lightener, you see I've got that streak there, you pick up where you want your streak. And you don't want them to chunky, the chunkier the streak the quicker it's going to grow out. So you want to grab your fine streak and just work it up. So you see I've got the lightener in this part then I re-dip my comb in the lightener. This method is called ballyage. Or pintura. Basically this means we are painting the hair. We let that process and then you'll have your streak, it's going to give you a nice natural looking streaks, that aren't going to grow out in four weeks."
