"Hi, I'm Amelia, and I'm going to show you how to curl hair with hot rollers. There's a lot of different hot rollers on the market, you've got the stick rollers, the velvet covered rollers, and then just the smooth rollers, there's also steam rollers. Steam rollers are going to give you a tighter curl, and velvet covered rollers are going to give you a softer, bouncier curl. When trying to decide what kind of rollers to use, you also want to take into consideration your hair texture. If you've got a lot of frizz, or if your hair's curly, hot rollers may create a little bit too much curl, and you may end up looking like a poodle. So, if your hair's on the finer side and you're looking for more volume and balance, hot rollers are an excellent tool, and an underrated one. First you want to spray your hair with hairspray or some type of thermal protectant that has a small amount of hold to it. Make sure your curlers are completely heated up, there's usually an indicator light on there that will let you know. Depending on the amount of curl that you want depends on the size that you use, if you want a tighter curl, then you want to choose the smallest roller. If you want a larger, bouncy, smoother curl, you're going to want to choose the larger roller. Most of the looks nowadays that you're seeing with a lot of the wave and curl down at the base of the hair are done with the larger rollers, and I'll show you how to do that. Pretty much you take a section of hair, spray it with a little hairspray, comb through, and then take your large roller, you want to converge that strand at the ends, on other words you want to pull it altogether at the ends. This roller has got some teeth in it, so it really does a good job of grabbing that hair. So, you just want to pull it up, and then roll that hair down. Now, I've rolled that roller right on top of that hair that I pulled up, in other words, that's on base, so that's going to give me a lot more volume. Then I just put the clip on, and let that roller sit. If I want something that is a little bit looser, I'm going to again take that section of hair, depending on how loose you want it, is depending on how much hair you take. I've got maybe an inch and a half thickness here, and again I'm going to take a large roller, but instead of pulling that hair straight up, cause the further your hair goes away from your scalp, the more volume you're going to get. So, I don't want a lot of volume this time, so I'm just going to pull it out at ninety degrees from the scalp, and again I'm going to use that edge with the teeth and kind of pull through and that does a good job of smoothing those ends for me, and I'm just going to wrap that down. And, that's going to give me a little bit less volume. And, you just let that curl, or cool. Now, the least amount of volume, is I'm going to bring the hair straight down to a zero elevation, and again I'm going to use a large roller, and I'm not even really going to bring that all the way up to the scalp, I'm just going to let it hang, and what that's going to do is that's going to give me just some smoothness and bounce on the ends. So, when we come back, I'll take this, I'll take these out and you can see what it looks like when it's all done. So, now that I've taken them out, I'm just going to run my hands through, and you see the amount of body that you get from them. And, the ends are curled, it's a great tool to use. And, that's how you curl your hair with hot rollers."
