"Coach Rudy. I've won championships both as a coach and a player. Let's talk about layups, and how to improve our layup skills. If you're by yourself and you're at the park, practice going full court, full speed, both right hand and left hand. Shoot reverse layups, shoot finger rolls, practice all of those. Practice finger rolls down the baseline. Understand the aspect ratio of where the rim is. Where am I in relationship to the rim? If I'm coming down straight down the court, I need to be a little bit wider so that as I come in on the free throw--I mean, if I'm coming down the right side of the court, I need to be a little bit wider so as I come into the backboard, my layup will have a chance to get to the square with a decent angle. Same thing on the left side. A lot of you young players, you're not taking a wide enough approach to the backboard, so when you get to the backboard, the angle on the layup is not that great, hence which is why we're seeing so many missed layups. Take a wider approach, practice that. If you have a buddy, bring a buddy with you."
