"Coach Rudy here. I've won championships both as a coach and as a player. So you're asking yourself, "How do I play basketball?" Well, let's break that down to a more simple question. What are the different elements of basketball? First, there's offense. Being able to shoot a free throw. Being able to shoot a lay up. Being able to shoot a jump shot. Being able to shoot a three pointer. Alright? Work on your shooting game, shooting is very, very important. Then there's defense. Do I have the correct defensive position? Am I moving my feet correctly? Do I have the ratio of where I am to where the defender is? Can I see the ball? Can I see the offensive guy? Can I box out? Have I learned how to use my hips and establish a low center of gravity? Have I learned how to establish contact or take contact? Can I extend to the basketball and rebound the basketball? Do I get on the floor and chase loose balls? Alright? Am I willing to take a charge? Am I willing to stand in front of somebody that's going full speed? In between them and the rim, am I willing to stand there and take that collision? Have I learned how to dribble? Do I understand the offense? Do I understand defensive sets? OKay? Basketball is not just coming in the park and shooting a few shots. There's a lot of elements. There's the offense, there's the defense. There's the offensive plays we run, there's the defensive plays we run. There's positioning that I need to understand. There's getting loose balls, there's hustle, determination, there's commitment. There's learning how to shoot, learning how to dribble, learning how to box out, learning how to rebound, having a great attitude, giving 100%, and being a good teammate. That's what basketball is. Are you sure you're ready to do all of that?"
