"Coach Rudy here. I've won championships both as a coach and a player. Let's talk about free throw shooting and how to fix a three throw that isn't working. The person or the player shooting the free throw is going to know as soon as the ball releases their hand, if the free throw is going in our not. So if you're missing a free throw to the right, you need to bring your elbow in. If you're missing a free throw long, chances are--is you've got the extra energy from the play, and you're not taking a deep breath. Remember our routine. We walk up, we set our feet. We dribble, the same amount of times. We spin it, we twist, we turn it, we do whatever we do. Take a deep breath, bend our knees, elbow in, follow through high. So if the ball is short, we're not bending our knees. We're shooting with stiff legs and not getting the ball all the way to the rim. That's a real good indication of you need to bend your knees. If the ball's going long, hitting on the back of the rim, that means you've probably got some extra energy in there, and you're not taking a deep breath before you shoot. If the ball is off to the right, or the left for you left-handed shooters, get your elbow in, extend high. Walk up, set your feet, bend your knees, dribble, deep breath, bend your knees, shoot high, finish high, all right, make the free throw. If something is wrong with your free throw, fix it."
