"Coach Rudy here. It's hot but that's o'kay, we want to make sure you have a fundamental understanding of the game of basketball. Now let's talk about the point guard position. Here is the coach on the floor, the guy who has got the smarts to take what the coach says and translate it into what his teammates need to hear. So if we need more hustle it has got to come from the point guard. If we are not running the offense the point guard needs to tell us where to go. If we are out of position on defense the point guard needs to get everyone in position. If we don't understand what the other team is doing the coach doesn't always need to call a time out the point guard says hey when they need the ball on this side you need to drop down on the weak side. All of that comes from the point guard. The point guard has to be the coach on the floor. Understand the offensive mechanism, understand the defensive mechanism, be completely familiar with the schemes, understand the opponent what their strengths and weaknesses are, know enough about his teammates, which ones he can yell at, which ones he needs to give a pat on the butt to. Overall put his energy and his enthusiasm into the game. On offense the point guard needs to establish the offense. Make sure we are running the offense. Be enough of a scoring threat to keep the defense on their heels a little bit and not just run the offense and not try to score. The point guard looks for strategic times to score. On the defense, not always taking the risk. Playing fundamentally sound and knowing where to be and where his teammates should be but when given the opportunity to play he gets the steal, blocks the shot, gets on the floor to get the loose ball. The point guard, the coach on the floor. Is that you?"
