"Coach Rudy, I've won championships both as a coach and as a player. Let's talk about how to play tip in. The tip in basically is an extension of 21. It is the only time when a shot counts for three points. Let me give you an example. Somebody is shooting a free throw. If they miss the free throw and somebody tips it in meaning they are able to jump up, put the ball in the hoop before their feet hit the ground that is worth three points. So if you are playing good defense on somebody and they shoot a shot you box out and go get the rebound, if you can put the rebound back in before your feet hit the ground that's a tip in and that is worth three points. Two ways to get a tip in, one off the free throw line and one off of a guy that you are playing defense on. So remember box out, two feet from you and where your are from you and the rim, remember box out two feet from you and the rim, establish your hip, wide base, go up rebound the basketball, put it back in before you come down. You can do that either when someone is shooting a free throw or you are playing regular defense. That's called a tip in, it's worth three points. Go play tip in."
