"You know today most of us find ourselves dealing with a lot of stress. Stress has led us to a lot illness. It's a little bit of a catch twenty-two because we want to feel better. In order to feel better, we need to exercise. But we don't know should we exercise when we're sick? My name is Jani Roberts. I'm a certified personal trainer and also a graduate of the American Academy of Nutrition. I'd like to share a couple of suggestions with you in regard to working out when you're not feeling really at your best. First of all when you're not feeling sick, listen to your body. If you're laying in bed and your body is saying no, that's probably the best thing to do. You know most of the time we we're working too hard and not getting enough rest. And that's why we end up ill to begin with. So that rest is really really important. When you work with athletes, they always will tell you nutrition, exercise, and rest are all equally important in staying fit. So over-training really is not the answer. On the other hand, a lot of times you've probably found that when you start the day out and you're really feeling great. Sometimes a quick light run or thirty minutes in the gym will really kind of help to clear you up, clear your sinuses out a little bit, and make you feel better. So again, listen to your body. If you have been sick or say down for a week or so, don't jump back into exercise too quickly. Take it easy. When you go back, maybe just spend fifteen twenty minutes, and then work your way back up gradually to where you were before you weren't feeling so well. I hope this finds you feeling better. Certainly exercising when you are sick can work either way. Good luck with it. Take care. This is Jani Roberts. Thanks for joining."
