"You know it is really difficult today to decide what diet is right for me. Do I go high protein, low carb, high carbs, low protein, fat free, some fat. It is really hard to make that decision. Hi my name is Jani Roberts and I'm a Certified Personal Trainer and also a graduate of the American Academy of Nutrition. Today I would like to share with you some ideas of how you can use carbohydrate intake to really make the Dr. Atkins' diet work for you. First of all let's just remember that carbohydrates are absolutely key so I certainly wouldn't agree with the idea of eliminating carbohydrates completely from any diet no matter what. We really do need them. Not only do they contain a huge amount of nutritional value and give us tons of energy but they also contain things like fiber, things that really help to keep the body clean and also they are completely alkaline. Remember when we were talking about carbohydrates that are made from whole grain that are really organic and high in nutrient value. These foods are very alkaline compared to foods that come from animals which are extremely acidic and also processed or refined carbohydrates, things that you find in boxes and bags. The kind of things we really like to eat, those are also very acidic to the body. So when it comes to trying to have a healthy body, good digestion, avoid heart burn, those types of things, any type of digestive disorder we really want to stay more alkaline. So when you are going to use those carbohydrates with that particular diet stick to vegetables, absolutely. They're carbohydrates, they're full of fiber, they're full of good nutrients and try to go organic when you can. Also stick with the whole grain carbohydrates. Stay totally away from the processed carbs and you will be able to use those carbohydrates along with Dr. Atkins' program and have a safe and healthy weight reduction. I'm Jani Roberts. Thanks for joining me."
