"Linseed oil is the most commonly used oil in painting. It's been used for hundreds of years and it's pressed from the flax seed plant. It's used both for to mix these tubes of point and as a mixture for thinning your paint. You want to thin with oil so that it keeps that component. So that it won't crack or peel. You also can mix it with turpentine to thin it more. You don't want to use too much or too little. You want to keep it in that range of viscosity. And turpentine is also good for cleaning brushes. You'll take a jar and simply pour some turpentine in, pop a brush in. This brush is brand new but it can soften a little bit in this turpentine. You don't want to leave the brush in too long or your bristles will fall out."
