Hi, my name is Julie Asti. I'm a certified financial planner with Asti Financial Management, and I'm here to tell you how to obtain a free credit report. When you go online, and you look to obtain a free credit report, be careful, because there are a lot of sites out there, that would propose to provide you with a free credit report, but what they tend to do is, they sign you up for, you get your free credit report, but they also sign you up for a credit monitoring service, which can run anywhere from ten to twenty five dollars a month, and unless you opt out, before the charges start, you'll be automatically enrolled into their service. The government has set up a way for you to truly get a free credit report. Each of the three major credit reporting agencies, Experian, Trans Union, and Equifax, are required to provide you with a free credit report every twelve months. The way that you can receive these credit reports, is to go to one source, which is called annualcreditreport.com, and that's a site that has been designated by the government, that you can go and truly get a free credit report. If you put in a request at that site, each of the credit reporting agencies, will send you a copy of your credit report. If they don't do this automatically, and they're not going to do it on an annual basis, you need to go each year to request a copy of your credit report, to make sure that there are no inaccuracies, there are no errors, and that all the information contained therein, is accurate.
