"Hi my name is Michael Quebec and I'm over here at the Heritage Kickboxing Gym in Union City and today's subject is how to generate jing in martial arts. Well jing is the Chinese term for explosive power and it relates to chi, or internal energy. Just to take away the mysticism, chi of course what they like to refer to as the life force, it's bio-electricity. It's the electricity that exists in all living things, kind of like when you get a heart attack and the doctors shock you, yes that's what it is. So your internal energy, well ours anyway human beings, where we generate a lot of our bio-electricity is located around the navel. And we develop that through breathing techniques. What we like to refer to as belly breathing. I take a deep breath, I expand my stomach with air, and I breathe out. You notice I'm doing it more in traditional karate fashion because my experience and my focus has always been in Okinawan and Japanese karate as well as Korean Tae-Kwon-Do. Same can be found of course in Chinese martial arts which is what today's subject was about, even external martial arts such as Wing-chun Kung Fu. The three forms of Wing-chun can be done with chi in mind. Again belly breathing and hard breathing at the end so that way you explode. Now when you are doing any kind of chi or internal energy, bio-electricity type of exercises, you want to start with keeping a calm mind. It's almost like you're meditating. As you're breathing you're being aware of the sensation and the tensing in your muscles and also in the bones. It's been described as a feeling similar to electricity when you have it. Well, it is electricity so when you feel a mild warm kind of shocking sensation that's your chi. With that in mind you can use it to generate explosive power which is jing. So that is one way to develop jing through internal martial arts. My name is Michael Quebec. Thank you."
