"Hi my name is Michael Quebec and I've got my hand up like this not because I've got a gun to me but because I'm going to demonstrate how to make a knife hand in karate. So I'm here at the Heritage Kickboxing Gym. And this is shuto. Shuto is the knife hand in Japanese martial arts. And of course it's the infamous chop that James Bond and Captain Kirk used to use when fighting bad guys in the 1960's. Basically you've got your hand open, palm like this. I've got my fingers together. I'm going to curl the fingers in slightly, slight curl with the fingers. Now I'm going to bring that thumb inside and fold that thumb in for safety. And the outside edge is the striking area. This of course is shuto or knife hand or the infamous chop in karate. I'm Mike Quebec, this is how to form the knife hand in karate. Thank you."
