on 10/1/2009 Very interesting. I have been looking for a good defensive technique. I tried this on my Robotic Boxing Trainer (RBT) seen at www.roboticboxingtrainer.com, and I found that it is a style that does indeed not only protects the head area in defensive mode, but also when I throw punches, the one remaining hand and stance protects the face more. The problem I did see with it, at least for me, my shoulders tire much quicker being in that stance, as opposed to a regular boxing stance. Is there something I am doing wrong or need to develop more, or is that just a downside to such a stance?

"Hi my name is Michael Quebec. I am here at the Heritage Gym in Union City and today s subject is how to take a punch. Well of course you don't want to get hit but in the course of sparring or a fighting competition you just have to accept that you are going to get hit sooner or later. A lot of times it is sooner. So one thing I like to do is I like to keep my chin in and I like to have my shoulders up especially as I am throwing my punches because usually that is when the other guy can counter and hit. If the left jab is coming I would rather take it on the top of the head right here than in the face. There is a lot more protection, if I am wearing head gear there is a lot more protection but even without the head gear there is a lot more bone there and of course getting hit in the face, blood and things like that you don't want that. So if the left jab is coming or let's say I want to set up the over hand right I want to keep my chin down, shoulders behind and I am actually going to squat a little bit as the left jab comes. There it is, again. If I can catch him where his arm hasn't fully extended I could eliminate some of the power and catch him at the same time, good with the overhand right, good. Now you never want to take a right cross if you can avoid it but if it is coming what you can do, go ahead is roll with the punch. A lot of really good professional boxers, go ahead again, are very good at rolling with the punch and what they like to do is loop the hook right on top, but of course I should caution only if you have really timed the guy very good will you want to do something like that. So basically get your shoulders behind your head, keep your chin down if you really have to take the punch or roll with it. That is one way to take a punch if you really have to take a punch. My name is Michael Quebec. Thank you."
