"Hi my name is Chris from aquatic central here in San Francisco and on the web at aquatic hyphen central dot com. And today I would like to tell you how to keep a Betta fish. Generally Bettas are kept in stores in very small bowls which is this. Usually the aid of some sort of chemicals such as metholine blue or malachite green is incorporated to keep the water cleaner, to keep the fish helping to fight disease. These are not ideal for home situations. A bowl this size is recommended and even for a bowl this size you'd probably want to do at least two to three water changes a week of approximately fifty percent of the water. Now the bigger the bowl the better. And if you can incorporate the use of a filter this will drastically improve the water quality. Bettas typically don't require heaters, they do find in approximately seventy degrees Fahrenheit or room temperature, Bettas can be fed once daily, approximately one pellet. Following this feeding regimen, the water change of approximately fifty percent a week should be ok to maintain good water quality. If you did have a filter in place, you can probably cut that down to twenty five percent per month. Providing your bowl is big enough, it would not hurt to give a Betta some sort of live plant, a floating plant ideally such as an achrous, aka a lodia or possibly a water hyacinth. Again there's not much that is required to keeping a Betta fish just maintain a good water quality and keeping signs out for a healthy Betta are enough. Again my name is Chris from aquatic central here in San Francisco and on the web at aquatic hyphen central dot com."
