"Hi my name is Chris from aquatic central here in San Francisco and on the web at aquatic hyphen central dot com. And I'd like to tell you how to buy a fish. The number one thing is to research and determine what are the specific requirements for the animal that you wish to have. And be sure you can meet the required husbandry needs for that animal. Some types of things to consider are what type of system is it. Is it a marine system, a fresh water system, a brackish water system, is it going to be tropical water, cold water. What type of feeding does it require. Is it a photosynthetic where it requires light to feed on. Does it need a live or specialty foods. What type of filtration does it require, a protein skimmers, ozone, pass through filtration. Is it legal in your area. Once you've established that you can meet the requirements of the animal that you wish to have, find a source for that animal. If you can, if you are buying it locally do a visual inspection of the animal to locate signs of sickness. If it looks ok, inquire what are the current conditions that the animal is being kept in, ie; ph, salinity, that way you can properly acclimate the fish when you bring it home. The last thing is you may want to inquire to see if the animal is eating readily. And that is pretty much all you need. You are ready to buy a fish. Again my name is Chris from aquatic central here in San Francisco and on the web at aquatic hyphen central dot com."
