"I'm Katie Adams, a registered Dietitian with Decathalon Club, a part of Western Athletic Clubs. We all get a sweet tooth occasionally. When that happens, reach for a piece of fruit instead. It has natural sugar, plus fiber to fill you up, and vitamins, and minerals to nourish your body. If you know that you over do it on sweets, don't buy them. If you have them in the house, you'll be more likely to be overcome by temptation. Instead, make it a point to go out for a piece of pie, or ice cream, that way you associate it with something special that you don't do all the time. There are also a variety of sugar-free products out there. Which are especially helpful if you're a Diabetic. The one thing you want to make sure is not to over do it on any products that contain artificial sweeteners. Artificial sweeteners, can be as much as 100 times sweeter than natural sugar. Because they're so concentrated, they can pull water in from the rest of the body's tissues, which can cause diarrhea. So you want to make sure that you eat any products that contain artificial sweeteners, such as Diabetic candy, cookies, ice cream etcetera in moderation. And never go grocery shopping on an empty stomach. You'll be more tempted to buy less healthy foods, and you will be more tempted to buy candy from the display at the register. I'm Katie Adams, a registered Dietitian with Decathalon Club, a part of Western Athletic Clubs, and that is how you fight sugar cravings."
