"I'm Katie Adams, a registered dietitian, with Decathlon Club, a part of Western Athletic Clubs. When choosing sources of protein, it is important that you choose lean sources of protein, such as white meat chicken, turkey, fish, low fat dairy products, and plant proteins, such as beans, legumes, and soy products. The more fat a protein has, the more cholesterol it has. Over time, too much cholesterol in the blood, can clog your arteries, and lead to heart disease, so try to limit the higher fat meats, such as red meat, dark meat chicken and poultry, and egg yolks, although eggs are a really good source of protein. The yolks have cholesterol, which again can clog your arteries, and lead to heart disease. Nuts and nut butters, such as just peanut butter and almond butter are also really good sources of protein. However, they do contain fat, so try and limit them, to two tablespoons, two or three times a week. Remember, a serving size of meat, is three ounces, about the size of the palm of your hand, or a deck of cards. I'm Katie Adams, a registered dietitian, with Decathlon Club, and that is how to choose good sources of protein."
