"My name is Shawn Connolley. I'm from San Francisco, California. I'm a sponsored skateboarder and I run a program called the SF Skate Club for skateboarding youth. Now I'm here to explain how to do a heel flip on a skateboard. Now a heel flip is the opposite of a kick flip. When you do a kick flip you use your toe to send the board downward like this way. Now to do a heel flip, you're going to kick your heel of your foot off the nose and cause it to flip the other way. Now a heel flip isn't necessarily harder than a kick flip. Some people naturally learn how to heel flip better than they can kick flip. It's just a certain preference. Now what you're going to want to do to do this trick is set up with your toe on the tip of the tail on one corner of the board. Now the reason for this is that you're going to be setting up with the heel of your foot and the toe hanging off the board but lots of heal on the corner of your skateboard. Now by putting your toe on this side, it's going to equal out the board, so that it doesn't go of any varial and it doesn't spin around while you're trying to do your straight heel flip. So it keeps it nice and even. And that's how you do a solid heel flip. So with your toe your crack the tail and then you send your heel out past the nose, kind of like a one footed Ollie. Stay above the board and wait for it to continue flipping and then land back on the board. Now learning any flip trick takes a lot of patience. And most of the patience has to do with trying to figure out what the best foot placement is and what will work the best. If you hang your toe off a lot it's easier to flip the board a little bit faster. So while you're first learning how to do it, you might want to try this and hang your toe off a lot. And as you learn how to do it better, learn with more foot on the board. Eventually that gives it more of an Ollie and you could do a cleaner heel flip. And that's how you do a heel flip on a skateboard. My name is Shawn Connolley. I'm from SF, California. And I'm sponsored and run a program called SF Skate Club for youth.
